Fuse Board & Consumer Unit Upgrades
If your fuse board still has rewireable fuses, no RCD protection, or it's mounted on a wooden backboard, it's almost certainly not compliant with current regulations. A modern consumer unit protects every circuit from earth faults — the difference between a tripped breaker and a serious shock.
What's included
- Removal of old fuse board / consumer unit
- Supply and installation of new metal-clad 18th Edition CU
- Full RCD or RCBO protection on every circuit
- Surge protection device (recommended)
- Full test of all existing circuits before energising
- Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC)
- Building control notification (Part P)
How it works
- 1
Photos or visit
Most upgrades can be quoted from a photo of your existing fuse board and the surrounding area. Or we pop round for 10 minutes.
- 2
Fixed-price quote
Written quote, including the cost of any remedial work the existing circuits need to pass certification.
- 3
One-day install
Most fuse board upgrades are completed in a single day. Power is off for around 4–6 hours.
- 4
Test and certify
Every existing circuit is tested before being reconnected. You get the EIC and Part P notification by email.
Pricing
A straight swap on a domestic property is typically a fixed price including labour, materials and certification. If the existing circuits need any remedial work to pass testing (e.g. damaged cabling), that's quoted upfront before the day.
